Robert David Jackson was the mayor of Montclair, New Jersey from July 1, 1987 to July 1, 1988 and has again been the mayor of Montclair since July 1, 2012. He completed the unexpired 1984-88 mayoral term in his first term of office and succeeded Mayor Jerry Fried in 2012 upon beginning his second term. He is the first Montclair mayor to serve twice since the Council-Manager form of municipal government was adopted by Montclair in 1980 under the auspices of the Faulkner Act. Jackson served as an at-large councilor from 1984 to 1987 in the second Faulkner Act-era council of Montclair before assuming the mayoralty in that council's final year.
